Joelle Debban

My name is Joelle Debban, I’m 28, and I’ll be joining DTE this coming year as an Elite team member. I was introduced to DTE after meeting a member of the Qeja Sock crew at the Sea Otter Classic last spring. I’d been on assignment for the Trek Driftless Team as a photographer, but then had the opportunity to connect with friends and industry folks alike, and shared my dreams of pursuing the sport as an athlete myself, while also working to make a difference in the cycling community. Eventually that conversation led to meeting Starla, and I’m so appreciative of the way this community works.

I started racing bikes in 2022 after battling a nervous system disorder for a handful of years - initially just dabbling in olympic style XC races, before working up to longer marathon style XC races. In 2024 I was encouraged to get a gravel bike to really stretch the lengths I could ride and the style of races I could compete in. I was instantly hooked, and signed up for Unbound 100 on a whim to give myself the chance to train hard and step into a curious mindset regarding what I was capable of. I raced a handful of other times this season, but the preparation for Unbound and the vision of suspending my disbelief around what I was capable of, will probably remain one of my proudest athletic achievements. We are far more capable than we give ourselves credit for.

Off the bike I am pursuing professional ski guide credentials and work as a photographer/editor/film maker/etc. I love being outside and I love art!

I hope to continue to lean into curiosity and the joy that comes from riding a bike. I’m excited to connect with the women on the team, and build something that is bigger than us. Collectively we can do so much, and strong, empowering individuals working together can pave the way for big things! I’ve only raced gravel for 1 season, and it was arguably the best year ever. I can’t wait for what is next.
